It’s been a busy few months for the Connemara based band CLADA, who have taken the nation by storm since their beginning… 4 months ago!
In that short space of time, CLADA have become a viral sensation on social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram, have collaborated with the NFL on the announcement of the Pittsburgh Steelers Game in Croke Park and have just completed their first Irish Tour which saw them travelling the length and breadth of Ireland. With the Irish Tour over, CLADA completed a two month stint in Raglan Road Irish Pub, situated in the heart of Orlando, Florida in the United States of America to further their musical career and bring their music to the American audience. The band is made up of five Irish musicians all with backgrounds in Irish music and other past projects which in turn have driven CLADA to the successes they have been meeting since.
Orla Leavy takes the reins on fiddle with her virtuosity in Irish traditional music, Sam Carey with his hot hand keeping the ante up with his tight rhythms, Liam Tierney always steals the show with his eccentric box playing and sporadic showmanship, Sam Purcell always fills the pocket with his tasty drum skills and finally Eoin Salmon who lays down the low end on bass keeping the songs and tunes sounding funky and fresh.
With the Irish Traditional sound that CLADA have so meticulously honed over the short time they’ve been together, their use of different musical styles with the use of a multitude of effects can be heard throughout their ensembles ranging from Irish traditional, folk, pop, funk, bluegrass and even elements of dance music which in turn gives traditional Irish music a fresh lift to keep it on par with the releases in todays modern mainstream genres. CLADA hope to establish themselves by making the music more accessible to those unfamiliar with the genre by introducing more contemporary techniques sounds and rhythms into their overall sound.
Cork’s own Chris Kent returns with a brand new show ‘Offline’. He tries to give up the internet and navigate life without asking his phone what to eat, where to go or how to get home. He longs for a simpler time of playing ‘Snake’ and constructing emojis himself. Now that he has hit 40 years of age, he wonders if he can ever go back to thinking for himself. Join him on a journey that will either make him or break him.
The Irish Times – **** – “Kent is a master storyteller”
The Mirror – *****
Dubliner Magazine – “Carefree comedic bullseye”
Tommy Tiernan – “He really makes me laugh and I think his stuff is so smart, he would be one of the best comics that I would have seen. He’s Fantastic”
Ornithologist Seán Ronayne from Cobh, Co. Cork is on a mission to record the sound of every bird species in Ireland – that’s nearly 200 birds. Often joined by his partner Alba, he travels to some of the country’s most beautiful and remote locations to capture its most elusive species and soundscapes: the busy seabird colony of Skellig Michael; a native woodland free from road noise in the Burren; the corncrake stronghold of Tory Island; a solitary nest in the Donegal uplands.
In this sound-packed, illustrative talk, Seán will bring you on a beautiful journey through Irish birds, sharing their sounds, stories and struggles. Along the way we get to know Seán, whose hypersensitivity to sound has proven both a struggle and a strength. At once inspiring and cautionary, Seán’s journey illustrates the beauty and importance of sound, and what listening can tell us about the state of our natural world, and how it can also heal and nourish the soul.
Expect laughter, expect tears, and expect the unexpected. Not to be missed – you will never look at the world around you in the same way again.
